West Side Columbus Development
Here is news coverage of the meeting for Continued West Side Columbus Development held yesterday at Haydocy Buick GMC.
http://www.10tv.com/content/stories/2012/12/05/columbus-westside-facelift-parks-paths.html
COLUMBUS, Ohio - After months of research, a group of OSU students made their final pitch on Wednesday for real life solutions to problems lingering on the west side of Columbus.
“The quality and well-being of people is very important, obviously in the west side. Currently, the west side has about 5.2 acres per 1000 people and Columbus deems it adequate green space to have 5.5 acres; and so they have a deficiency there,” said OSU senior Daniel Yontz.
They said that deficiency can be corrected by by taking advantage of a new bike path that's already in the works over the next few years, and ultimately, more green space.
The trail itself will follow the rail road tracks, which are close to Columbus’ casino.
Jody Dzuranin, with Consider Biking, is ready to see a completed path on the west side.
“So, this is a key section that will welcome people in to Franklin County,” said Dzuranin.
She's excited about the 325 mile trail, which will eventually connect southwest to north east Ohio.
“So there would be recreational trails and then maybe the bike hub,” said Dzuranin.
Now she, along with students, park enthusiasts, and city officials are envisioning its ripple effect.
They plan to capitalize on yet another catalyst for the west side's growth.
The group said green space and trails can increase home value, attract home buyers and boost people’s health.

Meyer FWAA Coach of the Year Finalist
Guided previous year's six-win team to a Top 3 ranking and 12-0 unbeaten season
COLUMBUS, Ohio - First-year Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer is a finalist for the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award, the Football Writers Association of America announced today. Meyer guided the Buckeyes to a 12-0 record and to the championship of the Big Ten Conference Leaders Division one season after the team went 6-7 overall and 4-4 in the Big Ten.
This is Meyer's third time as a finalist for the award in his 11 seasons as a head coach. He won the award in 2004 after guiding Utah to a 12-0 record and he was a finalist in 2008. Joining him as 2012 finalists are (alphabetically): Gary Andersen (Utah State), Dave Doeren (Northern Illinois), Brian Kelly (Notre Dame), Will Muschamp (Florida), Bill O'Brien (Penn State), David Shaw (Stanford), Bill Snyder (Kansas State) and Kevin Sumlin (Texas A&M).
Ohio State's undefeated/untied season was just the sixth for the program in 123 years of football. The Buckeyes went 8-0 in the Big Ten with wins over three Top 20 teams - at Michigan State, Nebraska and Michigan - plus another huge win over Wisconsin at difficult Camp Randall Stadium.
Meyer, the second-winningest active Football Bowl Subdivision coach with a winning percentage of .835, is now 116-23 overall, a record that includes a 65-7 home record, a 68-18 mark against conference competition, a 24-7 record against teams in the Top 25 and a 22-3 record in "rivalry games."

Travelocity's Top 10 Thanksgiving Travel Tips
Don't check your luggage. Let's face it, all you're really going to wear on Thanksgiving is a pair of elastic sweatpants so there's no need to lug a giant suitcase along. By carrying on all of your luggage you'll avoid those dreaded 'checked bag fees' so popular with airlines these days, and you won't have to waste time at the luggage carousel.
Divide and conquer your carry-ons. Remember: Everyone that you're traveling with, from an adult to the tiniest toddler, is allowed two pieces of carry-on luggage. Divvy up your belongings among everyone and keep any fragile items under the seat in front of you. In the busy rush of take-off, items in the overhead bin aren't always handled with care.
Get on Twitter. If you weren't a fan of Twitter before, you should be now. The holiday travel season is full of unexpected changes due to weather and heavy crowds and Twitter is the best way for airlines to communicate updates to the masses. Follow @Travelocity's Turkey Task Force use hashtag #ttf to keep track of delays and cancellations at the ten busiest airports in the country.
Leave the cranberry sauce at home. Whether you're a cranberry perserve or canned cranberry lover, the TSA doesn't really care. Neither are allowed onboard. However, your turkey is! If you've got an item that you're thinking of bringing, use the MY TSA app feature "Can I bring?" to find out what's allowed.
Dont wrap gifts. Your handy work may be torn to bits by a TSA Security Officer who is required to thoroughly inspect all packages.
Fly on the holiday. If you can travel on Thanksgiving morning you'll get home just in time for dinner and avoid all of the chaos and long lines that travelers tend to experience the days leading up.
Compare surrounding airports. Even if you live closer to one airport, a deeply discounted flight may be lurking at a nearby airport. Always tick "Compare Surrounding Airports" when you're shopping online.
Load up your phone with travel apps. Whether you're hunting for gas, looking to book a nearby hotel, or tracking a Superstorm, mobile apps can be a traveler's best friends.
Book a vacation package. If you aren't crashing at grandma's, book a hotel and flight vacation package to maximize savings. You could save up to $525!
Check-in online. You'll save time, money and even be able to download your boarding pass to your smartphone all by checking in online.

From The November Newsletter of Consider Biking Activity Update:
BIG NEWS! This month we learned that Westerville has been recognized as a Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists. Let's send our Congratulations to both Michael Hooper of the Parks Department and the Westerville Bicycle Club for all their work culminating in this prestigious recognition!
Meanwhile, just a few miles to the west, Bryan Saums and Alex Smith joined a community panel providing feedback to a group of Graduate Students from the Ohio State University's City and Regional Planning program who presented a studio project for a potential new multi-use trail system on the far west side with a new bicycle hub. The gathering was hosted by Chris Haydocy of Haydocy Automotive and we are thrilled with his unlimited enthusiasm for these improvements. The reception for this project demonstrates that West side business leaders and residents understand the positive power of the pedal for economic development and quality of life!
